Pre Start Health and Safety Review

As mandated under Section 7 of Occupational Health and Safety Act the PSR’s are required when one of the following process and/or equipment is used:

• Storage and Dispensing of Flammable Liquids
• Machine Guarding
• Potentially Explosive Processes
• Dust Collectors
• Molten Metal and Foundries
• Lifting Devices
• Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Substances

The Ministry of Labor announced that before workers can operate any machinery, equipment or process in complex and/or hazardous situations, an employer must first have a report prepared by a Professional Engineer stating what measures need to be taken in order to be sure that equipment or process is safe.

This report constitutes the Pre-Start Health and Safety Review. Employers, owners or lessees must complete the required reviews and submit a report to the Joint Health and Safety Committee or Health and Safety Representative, first, before use of certain hazardous equipment and processes.
